Vanguard High School Trails
What began as a one-mile school trail is growing into a larger public trail system through student leadership, community partnership, and support from PeopleForBikes.
STA 0+50 / About the Project
WheRE Communities Come Together
What began as a one-mile trail on school property is growing into something much bigger.
The Vanguard High School NICA team first set out to create a place to ride close to campus. As the project gained momentum, the team partnered with the City of Mesquite to expand beyond school grounds onto adjacent city-owned land. Working alongside city leaders and trail builders, they helped shape a long-term vision for what could eventually become a 12-mile public trail system serving the entire community.
With support from the school and a PeopleForBikes grant, funding was secured to complete excavation for the first 3.5 miles of trail. Student-athletes, coaches, and school staff are now helping finish the trail, turning years of planning and collaboration into a resource that can benefit riders for generations.
Vanguard Trail is a powerful example of what can happen when young people take the lead. What started as a small school trail has grown into a community-wide project that expands access to mountain biking while creating new opportunities for future riders.
